Bucket Truck

Posted on January 20, 2021 at 9:50 PM Comments comments (23)

I have said for decades now that bucket trucks are not a necessary part of tree work. They have their place but climbing is the true value in this industry. That being said bucket trucks are way easier than climbing. the real reason we purchased this was to add a level of safety when doing hazardous removals. Here at Old Town Tree and Landscaping, we have always pr...

Winter Rates

Posted on January 1, 2021 at 5:25 PM Comments comments (0)

The best time to prune any tree is always the winter. Bugs and beetles aren't active to invade fresh cuts. Bettles are the number one way diseases and fugus are spread to trees. Trees have an abundance of energy stored to help seal fresh cuts. Also it is considered the slow time of year for tree work. Often times this leads to better prices. Removals can be done anytime of year. Winter rates apply to removals as well! So all in all winter is low key best time to get tree work done. Call Old T...

Workers Compensation Insurance

A lot of homeowners do not know their risks when hiring any contractor. Advertising INSURED does not always mean that homeowners are completly covered. Sadly a lot of this is on the homeowner to figure out. Another sad reality is that sometimes companies do not carry the proper insurance. It is always best to ask for current documnets of proof of insurance. An insurer can issue a certificate with a customers information on it. This is the best way to verify proof of insurance. Also in Virgini...

NEW COlORS

Posted on December 15, 2020 at 1:15 PM Comments comments (0)

Old Town Tree has officially abandoned our original color of kelley green. Green has been our staple color. We did this for a couple reasons. One being that it is more noticable while working next to each other. This comes in handy when in trees or on the ground trying to keep an eye on coworkers and keep everyone safe. The second reason is that we, as a team, just like the color red. We think it is more noticeable to the general public as well. This helps us be noticed when working around tr...

Carpooling To Work!

We often load our gear up and traverse into hard to access areas. This little machine does so much for us, including ferrying our crew up into the woods.

Selling Logs

So I get this question all the time. Is my tree worth anything? The short answer is no. Tree the grow in yards, AKA "yard logs", do not grow the same as trees the grow in the woods. They do not grow tall and straight and often have braches lower to the base. This is becasue the get more sun and require more protection. There is also more of a chance that they have metal in them. Logs are graded based on many different factors. For example Black Walnut trees have diiferent amounts of sapwood. ...

Spotted Lantern Fly and Ailanthus Trees

Posted on August 22, 2020 at 9:25 PM Comments comments (27)

Spotted Lantern Fly is yet another threat to our local trees. It is an invasive species from Eastern Asia. Its main attraction is to the Ailanthus tree or " tree of Heaven or Paradise". This tree is so miscommonly identified as Sumac that a common name for it has become Chinese Sumac. 90% percent of people I run into think they have a Sumac tree. The problem is that these tree spread some many seed pods so rapidly and that they grow so fast. They in turn get into our natural hardwoo...

Having the right equipment is important in any field. This could not be more true in the tree care industry. We have always had decent but old equipment.
